photography
In undergrad photography IV class, we were assigned large format cameras to use for the entire semester. large format cameras come in a range of sizes, from 4x5 inches, to 5x7 inches, and to 8x10inches. I had the privilege of being assigned the one leftover 8x10 camera that I could barely carry, even in two trips. thus for an entire semester, my photography practice was narrowed to where I could carry the thing. the most adventurous outing was probably the walmart parking lot. since film for large format cameras comes in sheets, I had two shots I could take for each outing (one for each side of the film holder). film would then need to be processed in total darkness in a one-person room full of open film developing chemical baths. the results were very large pieces of film (literally, 8x10 inches) that could thus be printed onto photo paper by direct contact prints.
